Orthodontics in Nedlands

Straight teeth aren't just about appearance — properly aligned teeth are easier to clean, distribute biting forces more evenly, and can reduce wear, decay and gum problems over a lifetime. Dr Lego completed postgraduate orthodontic training in 1994 and has provided orthodontic care for over 30 years.

Orthodontic care
Three stages of care

The right treatment, at the right age

Ages 7–12

Interceptive orthodontics

The best time to identify problems is while a child is still growing. We target early signs of crowding, crossbites and jaw development issues during the mixed dentition stage.

Teens & adults

Comprehensive braces

For older teenagers and adults, fixed braces align teeth and correct bite issues once all permanent teeth have erupted — typically from around age 12 onwards.

Treatment may include extraction of selected adult teeth for the best result. Patients who had interceptive treatment as children often need a shorter comprehensive phase.

Complex cases

Surgical orthodontics

For severe jaw discrepancy that braces alone can't correct, orthognathic surgery may be recommended for adults whose jaw growth is complete.

1.Pre-surgical alignment
2.Surgical repositioning (by a specialist)
3.Post-surgical detailing

Not every child needs early treatment. Dr Lego monitors dental development at every check-up and will let you know if and when intervention would help.

Why choose Dental Difference

Orthodontics within whole-of-mouth care

Postgraduate training

Dr Lego completed postgraduate orthodontic studies in 1994 and has over 30 years of experience.

Early detection built in

Because Dr Lego provides general care too, he monitors your child's development at every check-up — often spotting problems before they become obvious.

A whole-of-mouth perspective

Treatment doesn't happen in isolation — alignment is considered alongside jaw function, sleep bruxism, gum health and long-term stability.

Specialist collaboration

For complex cases, Dr Lego works closely with orthodontic and oral surgery specialists.

Frequently asked questions

When should my child first be assessed?+
The Australian Society of Orthodontists recommends around age 7. Dr Lego monitors development as part of routine check-ups and will let you know when the time is right.
Do adults get braces?+
Yes — there's no upper age limit. Adult orthodontics can improve alignment, bite function and appearance, and can make other dental treatment easier and more predictable.
How long does treatment take?+
It depends on complexity. Interceptive treatment may take 6 to 12 months; comprehensive braces typically take 12 to 24 months. Dr Lego will give a realistic estimate after your assessment.
Is orthodontic treatment covered by health insurance?+
Some private health funds provide a partial rebate under extras cover. HICAPS is available for on-the-spot claims.
Will my child need braces if they have early treatment?+
Not necessarily. In some cases interceptive treatment resolves the issue entirely; in others it simplifies the later phase. Dr Lego will be upfront about what to expect.
