Preventive dental care

Check-ups, cleans & preventive care

Regular check-ups are the foundation of good dental health. Dr Lego assesses your teeth, gums and supporting structures for early signs of trouble, while professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar that brushing can't reach.

What we check at every visit
Decay, cracks and wear patterns
Gum health and early periodontal disease
Signs of sleep bruxism (teeth grinding)
Dental erosion and oral soft tissue changes
Gum disease treatment

Often painless — until it isn't

Gum disease is one of the most common causes of tooth loss in adults, yet it's often painless until advanced. Treatment focuses on removing bacterial deposits through professional scaling and root planing, supported by hygiene instruction and regular maintenance.

Risk factors: smoking, stress, mouth breathing, diabetes, genetics and sleep disordered breathing.
Gingivitis
Mild gum disease — reversible with professional care and good home hygiene.
Periodontitis
Advanced gum disease — not reversible, but can be managed to slow progression.

A conservative, whole-of-mouth approach

Minimal intervention dentistry

Not every area of decay needs filling immediately. Smaller non-cavitated lesions are monitored at regular intervals, giving them the chance to remineralise and arrest naturally. When treatment is needed, Dr Lego uses the least invasive option.

Children's & adolescent dentistry

The full range of care for children and teenagers — check-ups, restorative work and interceptive orthodontics introduced early where needed. Dr Lego's approach always focuses on building a positive experience.

Metal-free (mercury-free) dentistry

A mercury-free, non-amalgam practice. Modern resin and ceramic materials offer strong, aesthetic alternatives to metal fillings. Patient-specific protocols can be developed where replacement is indicated.

Tooth whitening

Custom-tray at-home whitening, in-chair whitening, non-vital bleaching for root-treated teeth, and microabrasion for developmental discolouration. Results typically last 12–18 months.

Dental erosion

The chemical wearing away of tooth structure from acids — internal (reflux) or external (diet, supplements). Combined with dry mouth and bruxism, it can significantly accelerate breakdown.

Oral surgery & extractions

Extraction is sometimes the best option — due to extensive decay, advanced gum disease, limited strategic value, or as part of a broader plan. Dr Lego will assess and refer to specialists where needed.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I have a dental check-up?+
Most patients benefit from a check-up and clean every six months. If you have active gum disease or other risk factors, more frequent visits may be recommended.
Do you see children?+
Yes — including check-ups, preventive treatment, fillings, and early orthodontic assessment.
Is dental treatment painful?+
Modern local anaesthetics make most treatment comfortable. Inhalational sedation (happy gas) is available for patients who need additional support.
Do you accept health fund claims?+
Yes. HICAPS is available for on-the-spot claims, so you only pay the gap on the day.
What is minimal intervention dentistry?+
A conservative approach that monitors smaller areas of decay rather than filling them immediately, giving early lesions the chance to remineralise and stabilise.
